I use Amquel as my water conditioner anyway, so that helps them. I'll do the 75% tonight and the 50% tomorrow evening. I'm not too familiar with salt use, but I know it helps so I will add the 25 tsp...

Salt helps protect against nitrite poisoning. The article mentions adding salt to protect the gills.I think a big water change and the salt will make a big difference for your guys. Cycling sucks!

When I cycled with my goldies, I had to do like 25-50-75% water changes every day, or back to back to keep those Nitrites down. About 30 days into it, it comes to an end.Good luck to you!!Annette

Anette - you had a rough time of cycling I recall. Same here. Seeing nitrates is a good sign though. I remember how happy I was when I saw them

You need to add back the amount of salt you removed. So, if you had 25 tsp. in and removed 50% of the water you also removed 50% of the salt. Add 12.5 tsp back in with the new water.

No, I never added any salt before this WC. I just added 25 tsp making it .5 tsp per gallon. I ran out of Amquel or I would have don BTB WC. I will get more today and do another 50% WC tonight and add...

I've had my dojo in 0.5% salt for over a week before and she was fine. Salt should help your fish feel better. Considering the high level of nitrites they were exposed to, I would go with 1...

at pH of 7.4, I wouldn't worry about ammonia till it's between 1 and 2ppm. salt at 1 tsp per gallon should protect against nitrIte poisoning.Keep a close eye on pH if you're using amquel. It can crash...

No brown streak in the fins, but aeration has been pretty good anyway. The HOB waterfalls a long way making plenty of bubbles, but I can always add more. The fish are lots more active today. I was so...

I just did a 75% and a 50% WC back-to-back. I didn't do any water testing before I did the changes. The fish were bottom-sitting and that told me all I really need to know, I think. This morning and...

You started with 25 tsp, so after the 75% wc you had 25% of 25 left (or about 6.25 tsp). Then the 50% change left you with just over 3 tsp. So adding 50 tsp gives you just about 1 tsp per gallon....

The salt in the water should protect them from nitrites. They might be down for some time because of the previous exposure however. These things take time to heal.

I thought an update might be nice. I've been so busy with Christmas it's a little late, but it's better than never. The tank is cycled. I did that one really big WC and the nitrite never rose high...
